Murderdolls – Joey talks to Kerrang!

Murderdolls – Joey talks to Kerrang!

Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison has confirmed to U.K.'s Kerrang! magazine that he and Wednesday 13 will return this summer in their horror-punk side-project Murderdolls.

Although the band went on hiatus in January 2004, Joey tells Kerrang! that he and Wednesday are currently working with producer Chris "Zeuss" Harris (Hatebreed, Shadows Fall, 3 Inhes of Blood) on their new album, "Women And Children Last", for a 2010 release.

Kerrang!: What started the ball rolling with regards to playing together again?

Jordison: "It's been an ongoing conversation between Wednesday and I from 2006 until now. We were bored with everything out there, and thought we had something to piss people off and shake things up. Everything is such a product or a fucking formula these days... Fuck formula! Fuck the norm!"

Kerrang!: Apart from Wednesday 13, who else is in the band?

Jordison: "Much like the way [Norwegian black metal bands] Darkthrone or Satyricon make records, Wednesday and I are doing the record ourselves with a couple of very special guests."

Kerrang!: Do you have any plans to hit the U.K. soon?

Jordison: "Oh, we have plans! Just wait and see, U.K.! We love you guys and it will be well worth the wait! If you have a problem finding a band that rocks, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire The M-Team!"

Murderdolls – To Release First New Album In 8 Years!!!

Murderdolls – To Release First New Album In 8 Years!!!

…Just when you thought all the fun was gone from rock music, you thought wrong, because the inimitable
Murderdolls are back, emerging from a dormant period with their middle fingers to the sky, tongues planted firmly in their cheeks and ready to call out those that haunt today's predictable musical landscape. Their first album in eight years, entitled Women and Children Last, is set for release this summer through Roadrunner Records.

Murderdolls are the Frankenstein brainchild of Joey Jordison and partner-in-grime, Wednesday 13. The band sees Joey step away from his day job and masked role behind the kit in
Slipknot to playing a low-slung lead guitar, while Wednesday serves as the frontman in their macabre rock 'n' roll circus. The duo are ready to breathe new life into the project with a brand new line-up, while their 'fuck you' attitude, devilish glamour and trademark black sense of humor remain firmly in tact.

Joey and Wednesday are excited to bring back their revamped musical monster, exclaiming, "We don't look at this as a return...this is REVENGE! The music scene today is as boring and stale as it was in 2002, when we first formed the band. This time around, everyone is the enemy!"

Comments Joey, "We've waited eight years to make sure, but this is the perfect time to bring Murderdolls back to the world. We've got nothing to lose and nothing to prove. So raise your fist along with us motherfuckers and sorry if you get a bloody nose along the way. It's about to get ugly! Women and Children Last!!!"

Murderdolls are in an undisclosed Los Angeles studio now, laying down tracks for Women and Children Last. Don't say you haven't been warned.
Here’s some shoot from there…

Trivium – Matt Heafy checks in with Decibel on “God of War”!

Trivium – Matt Heafy checks in with Decibel on “God of War”!

Decibel Magazine has gotten insight from each of our bands featued on the exclusive 6-song EP for God of War 3 entitled God Of War: Blood and Metal, and rounding out the series is Trivium frontman Matt Heafy letting Deciblog readers know where "Shattering The Skies Above" came from.

Writes Heafy, "The original idea came from our bassist, Paolo, who had the verse riff for the song kicking around for a long time and every now and then he would play it in the dressing room or at rehearsals. We knew the riff was cool, we just needed an opportunity to put it to use; so when we were approached by the God of War people, we knew we had the seed of a song idea that we could use to write a song to for the game."

Continues Heafy, "We wanted to keep it new because we have a new drummer (Nick Augusto) in the band and it was a good opportunity to see what we could collectively come up with now that there was a different approach to our drumming. And Nick’s drumming and intensity in the rehearsal room lit a fire under our asses that feels like we haven't had in ages. So we started with just the riff and began jamming the riff as a group at rehearsals, sound checks, dressing rooms, etc. until the song pieced together. Once we had the basic song skeleton we kept revising, adding, and improving it as a group until we knew the song was ready. This was a bit of a different process for us because previously most of our material was written separately and then pieced together in rehearsals. Here, we wrote the song together as a group from the ground up."

As for the recording, Heafy explains, "We then rehearsed the song repeatedly until it could basically play itself and to test it we recorded it at sound check. The next step was recording drums in a local Orlando studio. Once the drums were fully tracked, we then recorded the rhythm guitars, bass, melodies, leads, and vocals all on a portable Pro Tools rig in the spare office of my loft. Who says you need a real studio? We tracked vocals in an open closet that was covered in blankets, rugs, and anything else we could find to deaden the sound a bit. It was a very down-home, back-to-basics way of recording but we loved it. At one point a neighbor below me didn't love Corey’s vocals, screaming “Shut the fuck up!” at hour 10 of a long day of tracking...it was only 8 p.m. mind you."

In conclusion, Heafy confesses, "We feel that “Shattering” is a great snapshot of where we are as a band at the moment. But we’re always trying to evolve so you’ll have to tune into the next record when we have it to see where we’re going."

Soulfly – Omen artwork available + Marc Rizzo talks about the album!

Julia Neuman of Metal Assault conducted an interview with Soulfly guitarist Marc Rizzo on March 20, 2010 at Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio.

A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Metal Assault: [Soulfly's new album] "Omen" is scheduled for release on May 25. What really stands out about this album for you?

Marc: It's right to the point. There's a real hardcore, punk vibe to the record. Short tunes. This record is kind of different for us and I think the fans are going to like it a lot.

Metal Assault: Which album are you most proud of to date and why?

Marc: The Cavalera Conspiracy record is really special to me because I was such a big fan of Max and Igor [Cavalera, former Sepultura and current Cavalera Conspiracy drummer] when they were in Sepultura. For them to ask me to be a part of that record was really exciting. I think we put out a great record that will stand the test of time.

Slipknot drummer to join forces and tour with Rob Zombie this spring and summer!

Slipknot drummer to join forces and tour with Rob Zombie this spring and summer!

Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison will spend the spring and summer of 2010 pounding the skins for new labelmate Rob Zombie, who is embarking on a very busy touring schedule.

Zombie said, “Joey is an absolutely crushing drummer and I am thrilled to have him as part of the Zombie family. His amazing skills promise to take the live show to a whole new level of insanity.Jordison also commented, saying, “I am honored, proud and excited to announce that I have joined the ranks as the new touring drummer for Rob Zombie. I’ve been a fan of Zombie’s since the beginning. I’ve toured with them and have always wanted to play for them. When John 5 called me up to ask if I knew any drummers I could recommend, I said, only half-jokingly, ‘Yeah, me!

Jordison is universally recognized as not only one of the best drummers in hard rock, but as one of the most talented skinsmen in music, period. He will be sitting behind the kit for several appearances and tours throughout the year, namely theGruesome Twosome” tour, which features Zombie along with his longtime pal, Alice Cooper, which begins April 26 in Canada and runs through May 5 in Wyoming. Following that historic tour, Jordison will tour alongside Zombie as part of the 2010 Rock Star Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, which Zombie is co-headlining with Korn. That tour kicks off July 10 in Southern California and runs through August 14 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

This show and set-list is mind blowing, and what better way to kick off than with the ‘Gruesome Twosome’ tour with horror-rock legend Alice Cooper, Jordison said. “I want to thank all the Slipknot fans for their support and the Rob Zombie fans for welcoming me in. The Demonoid Phenomenon is on its way!

Jordison will make his debut with Zombie at the 2010 Revolver Golden Gods Awards, held on April 8, at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. Zombie will be closing out the evening’s awards ceremony with what is sure to be a “must see” performance.

Rob Zombie discuss music & “Hellbilly 2” in radio interview!

Rob Zombie discuss music & “Hellbilly 2” in radio interview!

Renaissance man Rob Zombie has an eternally full plate in balancing directing movies, TV shows and being a musician. Closing out one busy year last year with the release of his take on Halloween 2, the release of his comic-book-come-to-life animated DVD The Haunted World of El Superbeasto and switching labels to Roadrunner Records, Zombie was perfectly set up for another busy year in 2010.

Having hit the ground running as planned, so far this year Zombie has released his long-awaited album "Hellbilly Deluxe 2", directed an episode of CSI: Miami, announced plans to headline this summer's Mayhem Fest as well as a North American run with Alice Cooper (fittingly dubbed the Gruesome Twosome tour), and announced his next film as Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Catching up with the busy man to discuss all of the above and then some is Boise radio station 100.3 the X.
